BookTrust
Bookbuzz 2024
Our third Bookbuzz. A blend of film and animation; 16 authors showcase books that are ideal 11-13 year old readers.
The brief
One of our favourite projects is the annual creation of the film that accompanies the excellent Bookbuzz programme created by reading charity, BookTrust, which we’ve just delivered for the third year in a row. Bookbuzz is one of BookTrust’s lead trade programmes.
Bookbuzz 2024 features 16 authors. Each one pitches their book to the audience, and explains why they should choose to read it.
Schools can buy this programme for children in Year 7 or 8. The objective of the programme is to help schools support reading amongst children aged 11 - 13, when daily reading typically drops off as they start secondary school.
Students get to choose their own book to keep from the list of 16 exciting and engaging books titles, all selected by a panel of experts.
The film is an aid for teachers to help them deliver the Bookbuzz programme in the classroom. It showcases each of the books on the shortlist.
The approach
The production process involved interviewing each of the authors as they pitch their book to the audience. Our editor then weaved this film footage together with eye-catching animations, a lengthy soundtrack and graphics from the book covers before inviting the viewer to choose their own book from the list. We also created the script and cast the narrator - 13 year old Lucas Richmond.
As the full length film is only available for schools taking part in the programme, we are sharing a selection of highlights from the film on this page.
