Elliott’s Story
Every three minutes, someone in the UK develops dementia – it’s one of the biggest health challenges of our time. Families affected are often left feeling exhausted and overwhelmed; they don’t know where to turn.
Dementia UK’s Admiral Nurses are a lifeline for families, making a massive tangible difference to families going through dementia, including young onset dementia.
The brief
The charity asked us to create a piece of evergreen content about a family that one of its Admiral Nurses has supported through the heart-rending experience of caring for someone with dementia.
The approach
The film features Elliott. He openly shares the pain of losing his father to dementia, the challenges that his family faced as the symptoms started to increase, and all the different ways in which their Admiral Nurse, Jody, helped his family to cope. In the film he touchingly says: “…she helped our family through the darkest days.”
It was shot using two cameras at Elliott’s home. It features Jody, Elliott and his mother, Janet. We also wove in the family’s own personal footage to evoke a sense of Elliott’s father, how close the family were and how dementia has impacted them.
The film is being shared on the charity’s social media, and hosted on its website. It will also be shared via the charity’s 200,000 subscriber newsletter to bring more awareness to the host of issues raised by early onset dementia, and how Admiral Nurses can help to alleviate some of the stress caused.
