Walking With The Wounded

Martin’s Journey

We created this Walking With The Wounded film to raise awareness of the incredible work the charity does to help veterans who are struggling to transition into civilian life.

We shot this film on location in The Midlands. It features a ‘night in the life’ of real-life veteran, Martin, and his family, and follows Martin as he completes a night shift working as an HGV driver, and travels home to rejoin his family. Over the course of the journey, Martin thoughtfully shares the story of his struggle to adjust to civilian life and his spiral downward, eventually becoming estranged from his wife and family. He goes on to explain how Walking With The Wounded supported him and helped him to get back up from, in his words, “rock bottom”.

Our Creative Director, Dan’s, vision for the Walking With The Wounded film included using sunset, the darkness of a night shift, and sunrise to support the narrative arc and emotional journey of the film. So, to make sure we got the perfect conditions, the film was shot over four days, to maximise the use of light, inside Martin’s HGV cab, and the family’s home. We also used the lightest possible crew to minimise disruption to the family. We also commissioned a new arrangement of music from singer songwriter, Leigh Gordon to feature in the soundtrack.
