We Live With Dementia
The brief
‘We live with Dementia’ is the third part of a 5-year campaign, led and conceptualised by Lark, to raise awareness of the many different experiences of the family members and carers of those living with dementia. The goal of the campaign was to let families know that help is available for them and to signpost them to download the charity’s ‘Living With Dementia’ guide.
This stage of the campaign needed a hero film, featuring real life family members of people living with dementia. It also included 3 story films, each one focusing in depth on the stories of the individual family members featured in the hero film, and photography of the participants.
The approach
Instead of creating a storyboard, we decided to mock-up the film in advance, recording it in our studio with members of our team playing the roles of contributors. Having this available for the client to see helped the script come to life and it also allowed us to ensure that the device used – the contributors finishing each other’s sentences – would work well in reality.
When we were all happy that this effect would work well, the hero film was shot in a London studio, featuring real-life contributors and one of Dementia UK’s specialist dementia nurses. The story films were shot in the contributors’ own homes, for context in the film, and to help the contributors become comfortable talking about their experiences.
We then went on to manage the post-production of the digital assets.
The campaign content is being shared on the Dementia UK’s website, via its social channels, in online advertising and poster advertising.
