A family’s journey and the vital role of Admiral Nurses
Every three minutes, someone in the UK is diagnosed with dementia. It's one of the most significant health challenges of our time.
For the families affected, the journey can be both exhausting and overwhelming, often leaving them unsure of where to turn for support.
In recognition of International Nurses Day, Dementia UK asked us to create a film that highlights the invaluable work of its Admiral Nurses. These specialised nurses are a lifeline for families grappling with dementia, including the particularly challenging young onset dementia. They provide not just medical care, but also emotional and practical support. They make a profound difference in the lives of those they help.
We created this evergreen content to showcase the support Admiral Nurses provide through the real-life experiences of families. It features Elliot and his family, who navigated the heart-rending experience of caring for a loved one with dementia.
Elliot candidly shares the pain of losing his father to dementia. He details the escalating challenges his family faced and the crucial support their Admiral Nurse, Jody, provided. In a touching moment from the film, Elliot says, “...she helped our family through the darkest days.”
The film was shot at the family home using two cameras to capture the intimate setting. It features Jody, Elliot, and his mother, Janet. We integrated the family’s own personal footage to give a deeper sense of Elliot’s father and the close-knit family dynamic that dementia has profoundly impacted.
