‘Requesting Backup’ Wins Silver at the Charity Film Awards

"My story is not unique..."

These opening words set the tone for Requesting Backup - a powerful and moving short film created for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity. Told through the perspective of one central character, the film gives voice to the many different lived experiences of individuals in the military community. It highlights not only the personal challenges faced by service personnel and their families, but also the crucial support provided by SSAFA across so many touchpoints.

We were incredibly proud to partner with SSAFA on this campaign, creating a charity film that delivers emotional connection and authenticity in equal measure. And now, we’re even prouder to share that Requesting Backup has been recognised as a Smiley's Charity Film Awards winner, taking home the silver award in its category.

The Smiley Charity Film Awards are the world’s largest campaign celebrating cause-based storytelling through film. With over 5,000 charities involved and close to one million members of the public engaging through voting, the competition is both vast and meaningful. To be named a silver winner in this context is a huge honour.

This recognition is a testament to the incredible work of our team, and to Alex Crockford, who brought heartfelt realism to our lead role. A special thank you goes to SSAFA for trusting us to bring this story to life - it's been a privilege to collaborate on such an important piece of work.
