BookTrust
Bookbuzz
Our 4th Bookbuzz. A blend of film and animation; 18 authors showcase books that are ideal 11-13 year old readers.
The brief
One of our favourite projects is the annual creation of the film that accompanies the excellent Bookbuzz programme created by reading charity, BookTrust, which we’ve just delivered for the fourth year in a row. Bookbuzz is one of BookTrust’s lead trade programmes.
Schools can buy this programme for children in Year 7 or 8. The objective of the programme is to help schools support reading amongst children in these year groups, when daily reading typically drops off as they start secondary school.
The annual Bookbuzz programme features books by 16 authors. The books range in style and topic, but are all specifically chosen for their ability to engage this age of readers. Students get to choose their own book to keep from the list of 16 exciting and engaging books titles, selected by a panel of experts.
The film is an aid for teachers to help them deliver the Bookbuzz programme in the classroom. Each author delivers a quick pitch about their book, to explain what it's about and why young readers would enjoy it.
The approach
The production process involves organising and hosting interviews to record each of the authors as they pitch their book. Our editor then weaved this film footage together with eye-catching animations, a lengthy soundtrack and graphics from the book covers before inviting the viewer to choose their own book from the list. We also created the script and cast the narrator - Tom Rayner.
As the full length film is only available for schools taking part in the programme, you can see a selection of highlights from the film on this page.
